What would YOU like to talk about?

Hi, all! This is me, shamelessly soliciting discussion topics for coming weeks. If you've got a suggestion for a question or topic (or several of them!) that I can turn into a discussion post, I would love to hear it! I can also turn things into polls, which tend to be popular. People like clicking radio buttons and ticky boxes. :D

But more seriously...on r/fanfiction they have weekly posts that are really fun. "Post some dialogue you wrote this week" "What Did You Post? Wednesday" "Constructive Criticism Exchange" "Beta Bartering" ect. Those seem to work very well for building up community engagement. We don't necessarily have to copy them, but that might be a good vein to start in.

I like the idea of community posts like that. Share links to stuff we did, etc.

December tends to be a sleepy time for social media and a hard time to get comms off the ground.

I will look into integrating some of those! When I polled people, it seemed stuff specifically about writing or creating fanworks was of less interest, but probably people would be interested if there were just one every now and again.

I'm really thrilled by the idea of comm-specific challenges.

Okay, this might be difficult to pull off: Events during space-related historical dates and a theme related to what was accomplished.

We could also have a week-long event related to the planets associated with each day of the week. It could have astrology adjacent prompts.

I'm just throwing out ideas. Perhaps someone will have more cosmic themes to add?

Hmm, I think probably specific historical dates would tether things a bit too closely to Earth and Earth's space history? Ultimately we want to talk about the MCU, after all.

Speaking of days of the week, though, probably Thursday / Thor's day needs some kind of Thor-specific theme. HMM.

Now that I've made a whopping two discussion posts in the twinpeaks comm and they seem to generate discussion.. might I suggest character-centered discussion posts here as well? I think those could be fun with MCU characters, because people could also chime in with their comics thoughts and comparisons. You can encourage people to do many things in the same post: share fic and meta recs about those characters, talk about favorite moments, the actors, ships... It's pretty good for freeform discussion. :)

You could totally also have polls.

You know, it had not even occurred to me to structure things that way (even though I've seen you doing at twinpeaks!), but that sounds like it could be perfect. Not too much creativity needed on my part, plenty of material. Probably I will still mix things up with other kinds of discussion questions, but that would be a great basis and fallback. Thank you!

Hee, I love this Lucy moment too, I’m glad I found this icon back in the day and saved it.

Yeah, the good thing about character posts is that they allow you to be creative and wordy if you want to and have the time, but if you don’t, you can always just do a little picspam and ask a few questions. And the same goes for commenters - I might not have meta to share, but I can drop a link to a fic I liked or squee a little about my Valkyrie/Natasha feels!

Yeah! And I like how your more in-depth intros to the characters seem to have prompted more in-depth discussion in the comments, too. I would definitely like to get some of that going here.

Also your posts are making me want to rewatch and finally finish the series. I wonder if there'd be any interest next year in doing a rewatch on the comm.
