Avengers 4 trailer discussion post

I know, you've already seen this everywhere in the past two weeks, but hear me out. We have some specific questions below the cut we'd love to hear your opinions on.

THE QUESTIONS (you can answer all of them or just one, it's all good!)
1. What two or more unexpected characters are you hoping get screentime together in A4?

2. The word is that part of A4 involves timey-wimey shenanigans. What ONE scene in prior MCU history would you like the movie to revisit, and how? (Somebody time travels to it? We get a peek at an alternate universe? Something else?)

3. Predict one pairing that'll have a following after A4 that didn't before. Feel free to go as cracky as you like; after all, nobody saw Thor/Rocket coming.

I'm cautiously optimistic about seeing Valkyrie (or more realistically that she'll be mentioned), and less so about seeing Sif but it would be a nice surprise. Valkyrie could be fun with several other characters, like Peter, or Strange :)

Word of god says that Sif got snapped (which I am so irritated about; you don't have to kill her just to have an excuse to keep her off screen!). Fingers crossed for Valkyrie, though! AND SHE BETTER LIVE.

I'm sure I read a quote, either from Feige or the Russos, that Valkyrie survived Thanos' attack on the refugee ship. They would not say how, or where she is now, so the odds of her showing up in A4 are pretty good.

2 - I really feel there is some unresolved stuff around Howard Stark that is either going to get resolved in this film or never will be. Something happened to turn him from the Howard Steve knew to the Howard Tony knew. Also, if I was Steve I'd be really disturbed by how Tony talks about his Dad. It's not something they've shown on screen. It's got to be an issue, tho. How can it not? If one of my close friends became a jerk and his kid reacted badly to the sound of his name I'd want to know what's up.

Sadly, I think that is all going to be left unresolved.

3. Carol/Nebula - Galactic goodie goodie turned rogue / Galactic bad girl gone good. Not lawful good, but good.

Wong/Hulk - In the comics and cartoons, Bruce and Stephen have a bond. Hulk can see Stephen's astral form and Stephen helps Bruce manage his situation. We'll likely see Hulk in the next film and it may turn out that a different sorcerer has been helping him.

I just randomly came up with the last one. Who knows? Could be fun, tho.

I would be so here for Carol/Nebula!! I had no idea about any of that Bruce-Stephen stuff from the comics. I feel like you could go some interesting science vs magic directions there. And I would be delighted to see Wong again! And after all, he and Bruce have met, which puts them far ahead of many possible MCU ships at this point. XD

I just came up with it while writing the comment, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense that Wong and Bruce might work together to deal with his stuff. Assuming Wong lives of course :)

I'd also love some Carol/Nebula.

Man, I feel like you're right that the Howard stuff is probably going to be unresolved, but I would honestly love it if some of the timey-whimey shenanigans resulted in Tony seeing/interacting with a version of his dad closer to the one Steve knew. That would be fascinating.

I'd be happy even just with a small nod to it and maybe a detail that some of us can latch onto. Howard is so central that not knowing what happened there feels very odd.

1. Not to be a Loki stan on main, but I would kill for Loki and Nebula/Gamora interaction. Did they meet when Loki was on Sanctuary? Or do they just know each other by reputation? I just want a scene of Loki and either sister meeting unexpectedly, going "You!" and immediately drawing their weapons. Lol. That is assuming, of course, that:

2. Loki is brought back to life by said timey wimey shenanigans (or by other means). And via such shenanigans...ugh, how to pick. I really really want to know what exactly happened after he was stabbed by Kursed. Because canon has repeatedly established that Loki's illusions are not tangible, so he was impaled for realsies, and died for realsies, unless Thor just failed to notice he was still slightly alive. Divine intervention (Frigga maybe)?

3. I could have gone my whole life without contemplating Thor/Rocket, thank you. Idk I'm that much of a shipper, actually.

No shame, I think we have several Loki stans around here (including me, kind of). I agree, the possibility of Loki having a history with Nebula and Gamora is so intriguing! I love all of them, and we've already had that very brief convo between Thor and Gamora in IW about family. Now it's Nebula and Loki's turn, right??

Thor/Rocket is a small but vibrant little fandom of like five people, I think. One of them is a friend of mine. They manage a fic or two for most of the major multi-fandom exchanges.

I'm also a Loki lover and I'm with you. I think it'd be awesome to see him bonding with Nebula and/or Gamora over their Thanos hatred.

Yessss, give me grudging, mistrustful allies of necessity who gradually become real friends, who refuse to admit they actually don't always hate each other.

2. Judging from some of the on-set stills, they revisit the scene where Loki gets captured at the end of A1. It appears to be an alternate universe in which Tony is a member of SHIELD (maybe even in charge of it, like Howard was?) I would LOVE to see evil!Tony and Loki scheming and plotting together.

I WANT IT TOO. Apparently the running time for this film is, like, three hours, so they should have time to cram it in somewhere!

THIS WOULD BE AMAZING. Gosh, there's so much more I'd like to see the MCU do with Natasha, and doing it with Peggy would be FANTASTIC.

Maybe Val/Steve? He does have a thing for women who can kick his ass.

It's true! Like maybe a FWB thing? I feel like they could give each other a good time without a lot of angst or strings. And meanwhile they could worry about Thor together. ~~Maybe => Val/Steve/Thor??~~

Ohhh, I'm not sure about #2, but I have thoughts for the other two:

1. My answer here is always going to be Rocket + whoever. I think Rocket + Nat and Rocket + Rhodey both have a lot of potential. (I'd also love to see Rocket + Sam, but I'm not sure if the unsnapping will happen in a way that would leave time for that.) Also interested in Nat + Nebula, though I'm not sure how unexpected that is.

3. Hard second of the Carol/Nebula idea. I already ship it, tbh. And if Carol does end up having some sort of (maybe non-con) body mod backstory, they already have a lot in common!

Rocket + whoever is always going to be an excellent combo. I would love more Rocket and Nebula, for example - all that noncon body modification backstory, which neither of them have ANY interest in sharing with one another, but maybe it comes up anyway... But also Rocket + Earth people has a lot of potential. For starters, he's a raccoon; they're going to have more hangups about that than Quill did.

Oh yeah, I am also allll for more Rocket and Nebula (I just wasn't sure if it quite counted as unexpected, since they've had who adventures before, and are the only two Guardian characters left for now). But yeah, I look forward to reactions to the talking raccoon. (I didn't put it, but Rocket and Tony is another combo I really hope to see. Think of the nicknames!)

Oh gosh, I think Tony and Rocket will either hate each other or instantly be best buddies for life. There is no in-between. XD

This is 100% correct, and honestly, I think the difference would come down to something as simple as what mood their both in when they first meet.

1. Well, I guess this is expected now, but I REALLY WANT lots of Nebula+Tony time. Like, that is just such an intriguing combo, and they're both chock-full of issues but mostly very different issues?

Other than that, man, I just want a LOT of Valkyrie. Valkyrie all the time, doing all sorts of Valkyrie things with all manner of people. Carol? Nebula?? OKOYE.

2. Look, my absolute favorite part of Back to the Future II is when Marty or Doc is crawling around in the background of a scene from the previous movie, looking at it from a new perspective. I don't even care what scene it is, I just love when we get the "what was REALLY going on" weirdo retcons. (I also enjoyed that one dumb LOST episode about the obnoxious extras.) GIVE ME STRUCTURAL FUCKERY, PLEASE.

3. I'm going to predict that Rhodey and Steve end up working together on some project in a very shippy way and people write a lot of fic of them having mourning sex.

I just want a LOT of Valkyrie. Valkyrie all the time, doing all sorts of Valkyrie things with all manner of people. Carol? Nebula?? OKOYE.

Valkyrie and Okoye together on screen would be PERFECT.

I think they would be SO fascinating together. Because like, here are TWO women from two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT all-female royal security forces, with really different backgrounds. Okoye is so earnest where Val is all careless fatalism, except now she's not quite living up to that fatalism anymore, is she? Meanwhile Okoye is devoted to her (now-dusted) king and Val has lost her entire life to one king and now unwillingly devoted to another. Just. They fascinate me. I would like 100k about them.

I'm so curious what they would think of each other. Would Okoye think less of Valkyrie after finding out that she abandoned her people and king for centuries? Would Valkyrie think less of Okoye for supporting the king even when the king was an usurper who would have harmed the country and its people? Or neither, because they can both if not approve then understand what led to the other's actions? So many possibilities.

Yes!! There's a lot of possibilities there, and the compare/contrast between is so interesting to me. I'd really like to stick them together for some significant time, like a couple of days, just to see how things shook out between them.

Oh hey you know what I just thought of? Shuri and Nebula. I just imagine that since Nebula's gone off on her own, she can't always find the best replacement parts for her mechanical bits, and that even when she was still loyal to Thanos he didn't give her high end stuff either, so she's probably always in pain and just blocks it out. So like, at some point Nebula needs something fixed/replaced, and Shuri is the only one capable of helping her, and of course Shuri just goes all out and fixes/improves everything she sees, and afterwards Nebula's like ??? I feel weird??? Because she's not hurting all the time and everything works right. Augh.

An excellent combo! I think there's a tiny bit of shipfic out there and also a little bit of gen, if you're interested in that. And their approaches to technology and technological improvements are bound to be PRETTY DIFFERENT. I would love to see them together.

Intriguing! Any ideas on what might happen to prompt that ship?
