D'OH!

Well, I spent so much of this weekend reading Endgame reactions all over fandom that I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THE WEEKLY DISCUSSION POST. For those who would like to talk about Endgame in this community, the discussion post is here.

Here, a day late, is a spin-off topic for discussion: In your opinion, which character got the most interesting arc across all of the MCU films? And which arcs made the least sense?

WARNING:Endgame spoilers in comments!

as a Nebula fan I have to say I loved her journey so much. She may not have appeared in this many movies, but she's my girl and she got so much growth.

I gotta admit Nebua had me at her burningly sarcastic throaty "Thanks, DAD" in GOTG because it is exactly my kind of thing, LOL. And "of all of our siblings, I hated you the least."

Probably my favourite scene in Endgame (NOT SPOILED MUCH FOR CHOICE THERE LOLLLLLL) was Tony being all fatherly and non-patronizing with her on the marooned ship -- "See, now you have a chance to win. Congratulations, you won, good game" -- and she's all "That was - fun," like the idea of a game not involving the actual loss of limbs and body horror and humiliation and self-hatred, and just being something two bored people who like each other do together, completely floors her.

(Oh Lord, imagine her teaching that to 2014 Gamora. "Now you try to put it through my hands. HAHA, YOU LOST! I WON!! I mean, uh, congratulations, good game, want to try again?")

Oh my god, oh my god. I mean, I'm really interested in 2014 Gamora vs 2019 Nebula just because it's so weird for both of them with Nebula being in the more-experienced, "big sister" role, but Nebula actually trying to teach Gamora shit is honestly pretty hilarious.

I KNOW. Also OMG, imagine 2023 Nebula summing up everything for 2014 Gamora. "And then, after Thanos killed you, we had a plan to work as a team and thwart him, but...." "Quill ruined it." "Yeah, Quill ruined it." Or Nebula telling Gamora what songs she used to like. (LOL now I want this fic)

It was pretty amazing they started the movie off with it, too - that was gutsy. That opening sequence (after Clint's family is duuust in the wind) was lovely.

Does anyone have a theory on what happened to 2014 Gamora? Did she get snapped with Thanos's army, or run off? (I wanted her to stay with Nebula, sigh.)

No, IIRC Quill is looking at a display and it says "MISSING" and he turns it off when Thor comes over. I can't remember now if she's in the final battle scene in the A-Force lineup, I think so? That might be one way of getting around Tony's apparent wish to snap Thanos and his forces, if she's literally not fighting with him at that point.

My notes back this up: she's there in the final battle, but not in the ship as Peter, Rocket, Thor et al are heading up into the black, and she's listed as missing.

Was she in the A-Force scene? I thought I saw her in front but that little bit goes by so fast. That scene where she knees Peter in the balls (LOL) happens during the final fight, right?

The people on the ship at the end so far as I could tell were Thor, Quill, Drax, Nebula, Mantis, Rocket, and Groot. Nebula and Mantis basically joined the family after GOTG2 (aww) so it looks like Thor might be with them for a bit? It's hard to tell. I wish Thor had stayed in Asgard and they'd taken Val, maybe. Altho VAL wouldn't leave the Asgardians.

I love Nebula and Gillan is great and I was so pleased they didn't kill her off or turn her evil or whatever. 2023 Nebula convincing 2014 Gamora to fight Thanos was such a neat little twist.

(Tiny hint of bitterness, I REALLY wanted Nat and Nebula to meet up, since their backgrounds are similar but they're so different.)

Super late but I don't care. :P

Nebula's arc has been (so far) the best one. Because it was gradual, stayed true to her characterization, and also developed her into a way more complex and fascinating character.

Clint has drawn the shortest end of the stick when it comes to story arc. He goes from super SRS BIZNESS character who is v. removed from all the shenanigans to having a deep connection (that some would say is romantic) with Nat. Only to end up with a surprise!family and then serial killer who is deemed cool because he has a katana.

Since Clint: never got his own solo movie in between AND sat out at least 1 team up movie, there's a severe lack of consistency when it comes to who he IS. So, by the time EG came around, he ended up with nothing but the hottest of all messes.
