What Are Your Favorite Space Travel Moments?

Hello, and welcome to your weekly Sunday discussion post! This week's topic relates to this community's moniker, "MCU IN SPAAAAAAAACE!"

There are a lot of moments in the MCU that involve space travel, from Thor falling to earth in the first Thor movie to the time heist in Endgame. Which ones are your favorites?

For me, Rhodey and Nebula retrieving the Power Stone is a highlight, especially when they start talking about coping with mechanical body parts. I also love Tony and Nebula playing games in space, Thor smashing up against the Guardians' windshield, and Valkyrie piloting the Grand Master's ship through the Devil's Anus. The ones that appeal to me most are the ones that serve as subtle character development, or are just plain funny.

What about you? What are your favorite moments involving space travel, and why do you love them?

Carol rescuing Tony and Nebula. It really gives us a sense of her power and the way she's able to pull them out of a hopeless situation because for her, it's not.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT WAS ALMOST NOT IN THE FILM

Even if I don't like IW very much, I really enjoyed the plot between Thor, Rocket and Groot, I didn't expect to like it as much as I did!

That was by far the best part of a really downer movie. I knew Thor (probably) wasn't going to die (quite probably) when he channeled the star, but Hemsworth really sold how desperate he was.

I really love a lot of it in IW, like Spider-Man holding onto the spaceship. The sense of adventure! Got vertigo from seeing that on the big screen, but that just means it worked. EG has those atmospheric, effective moments at the beginning. They can be too claustrophobic, though. Wrong kind of depressing.

GotG 1&2 have some good ones. The space jumps cracked me up. For the sad stuff: Yondu's funeral, with the Ravager ships appearing, and We are Groot (they are on a ship). If there's a theme to some of the things I like, it's probably to do with cinematography and emotions.

And people say IW wasn't funny!

"I should've stayed on the bus." I love that moment so much. I think it's a really good one for the adventure and awe of space, for sure.

Poor Peter, I just want to hug him. :)Poor Peter, I just want to hug him. :)

Me most of the time, TBH.

I think most of my favorites are in the GotG movies. There's just such a sense of wonder and awe to the space scenes, especially that scene where they're coming into Knowhere in the first movie, and the asteroid chase in the second.

That is one of the few movies I saw on the big screen, because it looked GORGEOUS even on our small crappy TV at home, and in the theatre, just, wow. Plus the scene with the interlocking defense ships, the ride through the prison complex -- it was such a dynamically directed movie.

Yessss. It's just such a beautiful movie. It really brings the sense of outer-space wonder alive, especially since at the time it was our first look at the outer-space side of the MCU.

I wonder if we're going to get more of that in Eternals, which would at least be a reason for me to see that movie (I love the cast, am super ambivalent about anything even lightly connected with Thanos right now).

There was a really trippy Bucky solo series a while back, which is infamous for having beautiful art and being really trippy, but he gets an interesting role as the Man on the Wall -- basically a space guardian for earth. I doubt they'll do that in the MCU, but it would be interesting for a fic....

Ha, I actually read that Bucky series! Well, the early parts of it. Some of it was really neat, but eventually it was just a little (or a lot) too far off the rails for me. I did really like having Daisy in it, though. And yeah, putting Bucky in space was a neat concept!

I gotta say I'm not really enthused about Eternals; I think it's mainly frustration because I want more of the characters they've got, not yet another set of characters to add to their already huge cast. I think I'd be more interested if it was completely separate from the MCU (at least I assume it's not). I mean, they've got a whole multiverse out there; I wish they'd use it a bit, and set up some versions that aren't part of the main MCU continuity.

Drax in any situation. Even when some of his peers in the Guardians are in awe of somewhere nothing bothers him and that is grounding and mostly hilarious. I'm still kind of miffed at how he just appeared in Endgame and roared. He's the main reason I want to see the Galaxy film coming. I wanna know his story.

I feel so conflicted about Endgame, which I LOATHED, but it had....a lot of great moments! (Probably if they had just pandered to me and NOT KILLED NAT, I would have liked it, lol.) It was really good for space scenes. Nebula and Tony together at the beginning is one of my faves in the whole series. I love the moment where poor Steve is clutching the armrests on his first trip into space. Carol rescuing Tony. Clint and Nat basically going "Wow we're in fucking space! What a long strange trip it's been!" Carol TEARING THROUGH Thanos's air support like a hot angelic knife through butter. The bit with the GOTG gang all singing along to Peter's music (or no, that was IW). Nebula and Rocket wordlessly comforting each other with just hand in paw when she gets back.
