Video: Ragnarok costumes

This video, The Costumes of Thor: Ragnarok (Sneak Peek) takes a brief tour through some of the main costumes in Thor: Ragnarok. It was filmed before the movie came out, so the video host isn't able to talk much about plot points, but she does go quite a bit into naming the parts of things, the materials things are made out of, and (most importantly to me, lol) how the costumes come on and off.
Costumes include Skurge, Hela, Loki, Thor, Grandmaster, and Valkyrie.

The Art of Captain Marvel

Hey all, I took a bunch of photos and transcribed a bunch of excerpts from the Captain Marvel movie art book, and posted them in a series of posts at my journal. Highlights include Kree worldbuilding, Skrull worldbuilding, character bios on all the Starforce members, and lolarious early concept art of the Supreme Intelligence.

The Complete Breakdown of Brie Larson's Costumes in 'Captain Marvel' (Fashionista). Today I went looking for more info on Carol's suit, and found this. It has the following paragraph which helps explain why trying to get any of the Marvel characters out of their costumes for fic purposes is so difficult 😂.
'Captain Marvel's' Brie Larson Can't Save Womankind — But She's Doing Her Best (Hollywood Reporter). A really great profile of Larson. I am even more *hearteyes* about her now.
The helmet ultimately consisted of multiple parts: "two main pieces that you clamshell into the head, a separate chin piece, the wig and, inside, a custom-made balaclava." The supersuits were actually comprised of individual pieces, too, including up to four units for the boots, gauntlets, shoulder and chest segments and a back with zippers and velcro for an easier fit. The modular design made repairs more efficient, plus allowed — relative — ease of wear for Larson. Although, she still needed the assistance of six people for restroom breaks.

The Oscar winner and fierce gender-equality activist is proud to be starring as Carol Danvers in the Disney-owned studio's first female-fronted franchise — just don't conflate its success with the fate of women in Hollywood: "We have been opening movies since the silent era."

'Just remember, Twinkle Fists': Deleted scene from 'Captain Marvel' reveals rivalry between Brie Larson and Gemma Chan's characters (exclusive)
I have to say, "rivalry" is not really what I get from this scene, lol, but I enjoyed it a lot! Love getting even a little bit more Minn-Erva, love seeing Carol banter with the team (whom she seems to get on with really well, more so than what we see in canon, which IMO raises even more questions about those six years with the Kree), love big blue guy (Bron?) with his sort of Scandinavian accent and his claustrophobia.

Captain Marvel Inspires Kree Kids in This Exclusive Deleted Scene (io9)
Ahhh I am so delighted by everything about this scene. The Kree kids! Yon-Rogg hamming it up a little for them! (See, he's capable of not taking himself entirely seriously, very occasionally.) That evident affection between Carol and Yon-Rogg, which just confirms all the delicious fucked-upness going on under the surface. I am all heart-eyes.

Fans React to Captain Marvel’s Radical Feminist Identity Politics – From 1977
This Bleeding Cool (yeah I know) listicle....thing (can't really call it an article) is a really interesting compilation from letters from the comic's letters column, "Ms Prints" (ho ho). Quite a lot of quotes from women, including women fans, women in comics and women who would go on to work in comics.
And a nugget from CBR:
In The Superhero Women (a 1977 Fireside Books collection of stories featuring female superheroes), Stan Lee spoke about the impetus for creating Ms. Marvel:
It bothered me for years that we didn't have one particular super heroine. Sure, we had Red Sonja, but I wanted a female superstar who would exist in the present, the real world. I kicked the idea around with Roy Thomas. We came up with the name Ms. Marvel, for two reasons: One, I wanted to use the word Marvel if possible simply because it's the name of our gregarious group of titles; and, two, it seemed the the word "Ms." totally represented the new, liberated, upbeat spirit that we wanted the strip to represent.

Carol & Maria’s Friendship In ‘Captain Marvel’ Is The Heart Of The Movie Because Of Editor Debbie Berman (Bustle). This one has some neat stuff on not just the story development of Carol and Maria's friendship in the movie, but also the filming of specific scenes. Also talks about Berman's efforts to help get other, less experienced female editors work on the movie. Berman previously worked on Spider-Man: Homecoming and Black Panther.
'Captain Marvel' Editor Reveals How Carol's Journey Originally Ended (ET). This interview touches on a bunch of topics related to Berman's work on the film, but ( in particular, this spoilery bit )

As people have had more time to reflect on the movie, we're getting more in-depth thoughts on it, which I've really enjoyed reading. And I'm always on the lookout for more, if people want to share!
kore posted some initial thoughts and then extensive additional squee.
sholio is hosting a discussion about aspects they liked but also aspects they found disappointing.
And it should go without saying, but if you disagree with someone's blog post and want to talk with them about it, please do so politely!

From Forbes:
( Yes, the $150 million-budgeted MCU movie has already crossed $200m domestic and it has passed (or will pass today) the unadjusted-for-inflation totals of Amazing Spider-Man 2 ($202m), Thor: The Dark World ($206m), Venom ($212m), Solo ($214m), Ant-Man and the Wasp ($215m), Justice League ($229m), Doctor Strange ($232m). Presuming an over/under $70m (-53%) second weekend, the Brie Larson/Samuel L. Jackson/Reggie the Cat action fantasy will have earned $267m in ten days of domestic release, putting it above the likes of The Amazing Spider-Man ($262m) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($259m). At this point, it looks like Captain Marvel will top $400m domestic. Whether it finishes closer to Iron Man 3 ($409m) or Avengers: Age of Ultron ($459m) will be decided over the next couple of weeks. )
Captain Marvel topped the box office for the second Friday of its domestic run, earning $19 million and bringing its domestic cume up to $215m in just eight days. That's a 69% drop from its $61.9m opening day (including Thursday previews). Bawdy jokes aside, that's an exceptionally boring drop, neither a super-strong hold nor a catastrophic fall. It's exactly in line with most big-scale comic book movies and big-scale fantasy actioners these days, such as The Hunger Games (-71%), Rogue One (-65%), Logan (-70%), Venom (-69%), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (-70%) and Avengers: Infinity War (-70%). The likely $70m second weekend will be the second-biggest second-weekend in March, behind Beauty and the Beast's $90m second-weekend-gross in 2017 following a record $174m debut weekend.

From Deadline:
( The decision to rehire Gunn – he was fired last July by Disney after alt-right journalists made public a fusillade of decade old social media missives that made light of pedophilia and rape – was one that was mulled and actually made months ago, following conversations with Disney studio leadership and the team at Marvel Studios. Why the change of heart? After the firing, Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn met with Gunn on multiple occasions to discuss the situation. Persuaded by Gunn’s public apology and his handling of the situation after, Horn decided to reverse course and reinstate Gunn. )
EXCLUSIVE: Redemption and second chances have long been superhero movie staples, and today it looks like life has imitated art. I’ve learned that Disney has reinstated James Gunn as the writer-director of Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and I’ve confirmed it with Marvel and Gunn’s camp.
